TOUSKA

Brief

The MV (Motor Vessel) Touska is an Iranian-flagged Panamax container ship. Built in 2008, the ship is approximately 294 meters long, with a beam of 32 meters and a draft of 12 meters. The ship has a gross tonnage of about 54,851 and a deadweight capacity of roughly 66,432 tons.

The Touska is managed by Rahbaran Omid Darya Ship Management Company and owned by the Mosakhar Darya Shipping Company. The vessel is part of a fleet controlled by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) subsidiary, which has been sanctioned for transporting materials meant for Iran’s ballistic missile program.

In recent years, the ship primarily travelled back and forth between various Chinese and Iranian ports. In March 2026, the vessel was identified within the vicinity of the Chinese ports of Zhuhai, Taicang, and Gaolan.

History

The ship was launched in April 2008 under the flag of Malta, with the name "SAHAND". From 2008 to 2011, the ship sailed under the flag of Germany. In 2011, the ship returned to sailing under the flag of Malta. In April 2012, the vessel was renamed to "ADALIA", under the flag of Sierra Leone. In September 2012, the vessel was renamed to "TOUSKA", under the flag of Iran.

Grounding

On 5 November 2017, at 21:15, the Touska ran aground off Magazine Island near Hong Kong while enroute from Kaohsiung to Shenzhen. The ship was traveling at 7.5 knots at the time of grounding. None of the vessel's crew of 28 were injured.

US Seizure

On 19 April 2026, during the 2026 conflict between Iran and the US/Israel, US Marines seized the Touska for breaching the US naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz. At the time of interception, the Touska's crew allegedly included an Iranian captain and Iranian crew members. Prior to its seizure, the Touska had been docked in Port Klang, Malaysia and was sailing to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.
